The Youth Trumpet & Taps Corps is currently recruiting high school trumpet players in Oklahoma, Texas, Wisconsin, and West Virginia where states excuse students’ absences for playing Taps. Texas and Wisconsin offer $25 college tuition vouchers for students who sound Taps in a military funeral.
Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin signed a proclamation declaring January 1, 2015, as “Trumpet and Taps Day” with recognition of the Youth Trumpet & Taps Corps. This day was chosen because it marks the 15th anniversary of the National Defense Authorization Act (Public Law 106-65) going into effect requiring that every eligible Veteran receive a military funeral honors ceremony, to include folding and presenting the United States flag and the playing of Taps.
You can celebrate by:
- Cleaning your trumpet
- Practicing Taps
- Playing Taps on your street corner at dusk
- Wearing your YTTC shirt
- Sharing our Facebook page with all of your friends
- Thanking a veteran for their service to our Country
