Governor Mary Fallin Proclaims “Trumpet and Taps Day”

October 29, 2014 (OKLAHOMA CITY) — Governor Mary Fallin signed a proclamation declaring January 1, 2015, as “Trumpet and Taps Day” with recognition of the Youth Trumpet & Taps Corps. This day was chosen because it marks the 15th anniversary of the National Defense Authorization Act (Public Law 106-65) going into effect requiring that every eligible Veteran receive a military funeral honors ceremony, to include folding and presenting the United States flag and the playing of Taps.

Third and fourth lines of the proclamation read,

…Whereas, due to a shortage of military buglers, many veterans have an audio recording of Taps played at their funerals. Out of respect for their service to our country, it is felt that veterans’ final honors are more worthy of a live rendition of our National Song of Remembrance; and

Whereas, the Youth Trumpet & Taps Corps (YTTC) was founded on June 11, 2014, in Oklahoma, to give high school trumpet players the opportunity to use their musical gifts to serve those who have served our country;…
